Yesterday evening, we held our first creative meetup in Seoul, and it reminded me why I LOVE this city.
The people who showed up were insanely talented. Gareth Davies, a design agency owner with 25+ years of experience who also found us the venue. Cory N. and Sehyun Kim running a design agency between San Francisco and Seoul. Nilesh Kumar, an art exhibition curator who recently published a magazine. Sungmin Choi, a UX researcher who’s also building Figma plugins and a board game. Florian Ludot and Serin Heo running Dev Korea and organizing events for devs and designers. Alessandro Mapelli, an Italian art director and motion/3D designer. Oscar Sjöstrand, a videographer and 3D artist who also just launched his own app. Hyein Yoon: a Korea & Japan market strategist.
And more!
People from all over the world, exchanging ideas.
I work from home every day. Just me, my screen(s), and a cup of coffee. I love it, but after a while, you realise you’ve only ever been exposed to your own work. Same craft, same workflow, same way of solving things. Designers aren’t so different from artists. We need to expose ourselves to other ways of thinking, otherwise we just go in circles.
Last night was that breath of fresh air, I’m feeling inspired again!
We’re already talking about the next event - having people show their work, doing little demos… Maybe creating a website, too? 😂
If you’re a creative in Seoul, this is your invitation to follow along 🙏
